BEIJING, August 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese rowing team improved fast, a FISA (International Federation of Rowing Association) official said Wednesday after the country won 6 of the total 13 golds in the world rowing junior championships.

Matt Smith, FISA Executive Director, said, "I am really surprised with the excellent improvement of Chinese young rowers and impressed with their good techniques, fitness and excellent bodies."

China also won one silver and one bronze in the competition.

The traditional rowing strong nation, Germany, got only three gold, but won six silver medals and one bronze.

Smith said China's rowing teams has reached the world top level, they may have good performance in the Rowing World Championships which will be held in two weeks in Germany.

"We will see whether it will be a year of a great leap forward for Chinese rowing team. And so far, I think it is," he added.

Chinese coach Gao Jingping said that the good result in the junior championships made Chinese rowers more confident in world-class event. They hope they can win a gold in next year's Olympics.

China has never won Olympic rowing gold, but won silvers in previous Games.

Gao said more investment in training and infrastructure due to China's fast economic growth led to the improvement in the rowing sports.
