Beijing is a city with a history of over 3,000 years, and it has functioned over 800 years as China's capital. Now, it is the political, cultural and international activity center of China. The long history of the city has endowed Beijing with very rich cultural heritage.

Economically, Beijing is also a booming modern metropolis and a city on the move. Its dynamic growth reflects that of china as a whole. At the same time, the contemporary Beijing is culturally creative and innovative, embracing diverse cultures and traditions.

Geographic location: 39º56'N and 116º20'E. Beijing rests in the southern part of the North China Plain.

Total area: 16,808 square km, 38% of the total is flatland.
Administrative divisions: a total of 16 districts and 2 counties.
Population: 14,927,000
Climate: Beijing lies in the warm temperature zone with a semi-humid climate. It has four distinctive seasons, with hot and rainy summer and cold and dry winter.
